Infant checklist

Bottles.

Lotus uses Dr. Browns glass bottles. We will adjust the nipple flow as needed from 1-4 for your baby. Please use this brand bottle at home for easy transition.

Dr. Brown's Bottles

Breastmilk.

When freezing breastmilk please lay the breastmilk flat so it is easier to store in our freezer.

  • All Breastmilk needs to be clearly marked with baby's name.
  • Each bag must be clearly marked with the date that the milk was pumped.

Breast Milk Guidelines that we follow

First Foods.

Our philosophy on feeding in the fist year of life is to feed your baby when he/she is hungry. If your baby is  showing signs of hunger, (i.e. crying, sucking on hands, etc), we will  feed the baby. It is against our policy to limit food or drink at a parents request. We follow basic feeding suggested servings but we do not follow a strict per ounce limit if the child is still showing signs of hunger.

Under no circumstance will we refuse a child breastmilk, formula or baby food as  requested by a parent/guardian when a child is showing signs of hunger.

Feeding Guide.

We typically follow the Feeding Guide issued by John Hopkins University Hospital during baby's first year.  When you and we begin introducing purees, we will slowly introduce foods in case of any allergies. You are welcome to bring in a variety of purees for your baby to try during this time period.

* Lotus currently does not support the "Baby Led Weaning Approach".

Feeding Guide For The First Year

Bowel Movements.

Your baby's poop is a big deal. Constipation can lead to incredible discomfort and a very fussy baby. If we believe that this is an issue for your baby we will either give your baby prune juice or prune puree depending on their age and preferences. If your baby has extremely soft stools they may need to see their pediatrician if they do not quickly improve.

Cradle Cap.

If your baby has cradle cap, we will expect you (and your pediatrician if necessary) to provide a treatment. We will use the oil or treatment that you provide for us as needed while your baby is in our care.

Safe Sleep.

We gently transition your baby to our nap schedule that all baby's follow at Lotus.  We use  Halo Wearable Blankets that you will provide for your child. Due to Indiana state regulations we are unable to swaddle infants and we request that you purchase the Halo Wearable Blanket (SleepSack) and not an alternative brand, as these wearable blankets are certified.

  • Your Baby will be placed to sleep on his/her back in an empty pack-n-play. *A pacifier can be given as needed. Please lay your baby flat to sleep at home also to help with a smooth transition to sleeping at daycare. Please avoid allowing your baby to sleep in a swing or vibrating chair, as we do not use these items for sleeping at Lotus.

Additional Items.

We ask you to provide the following items on a consistent basis:

  • 2 pacifiers
  • Halo Wearable Blanket  (SleepSack)
  • Diapers (daycare provides wipes and diaper creams)
  • Clothes (a minimum of 3 outfits)
  • Pack-n-play sheet (must be fitted for a pack n play and not a crib)
